He views organizations from a systems perspective and finds that successful organizational growth also requires growth in individual leaders. Solutions generally require multiple initiatives. Bill often uses graphics in his work, both graphic facilitation and graphic recording.

He has designed and led scores of boards of directors meetings. Before starting his formal consulting practice in , Bill was a consultant to PricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in business development. Previously, beginning in , he was a writer and journalist first for newspapers and then, in addition, for magazines and newsletters. Some of his work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine and in Kiplinger organization newsletters.

Over the past 15 years, he has worked with impoverished families in rural villages in Honduras. He does so as a member of his church and as a volunteer and former board member of Honduras Threads which established and works with sewing cooperatives in rural villages outside the Honduran capital city of Tegucigalpa.

He serves on the board of the Greater Dallas Planning Council where he has been a member of the executive committee.
